Guns and Ammo

(download)
Guns are a controversial subject and always will be. I kept these down because of the recent events in Tucson, but decided to put them back up. There's no avoiding the controversy, even within my own home (and I'm betting within a lot of other homes) no matter when I put them up.

This one below was from when I was planning to add Kirby's stuffed animals to the strip as his imaginary friends. But I couldn't think of any way to do it that didn't feel like a Calvin and Hobbes rip-off, or pseudo Winnie The Pooh.

Of course, seeing Kane talk to and play with his stuffed animals in ways that absolutely crack me upespecially having the cute little guys fire imaginary weapons at each other, and pretending they blow each other upalternately getting kissed and cuddled, or shot with darts, pellets, and popsicle-stick RPG's—it's just too funny, and I don't think there's any way I can avoid including them at some point, but I need a new angle before I do.

It's Not His Fault...

Here's one I never posted because I imagined it as a part of a series. Then I never drew the series.

This all started as a way to get down the fun things my son does and says. Taking the time to make a series means I don't record the latest giggle, so I keep moving forward. Someday I'll put down the other ideas.

It's interesting to see the development of the art style in just these few months. I'm glad to see it's going forward in a direction I'm liking more all the time.

How's it Going?

I did a little cartoon last week and set it to auto-post here. But the auto-post failed to go up when it was supposed to, Friday afternoon, which perhaps would have been for the best.

It included a joke about guns. It was ironic and began an issue I wanted to deal with in Kirby, that of a mother who objects to her son playing with toy guns.

Saturday something obscene happened because of guns, and I was unaware because I was editing my post to get it up, which I finally did late last night.

Bad timing to say the least.

I have removed the cartoon and the blog and feel nothing but sorrow and sympathy for all affected by Saturday's events.
